WordPress.com

Hello Everyone!
Even though I don't think I have that many readers on here, I just wanted to notify anyone who does read my blog that I have switched to using wordpress.com to publish my blog. My blog can now be found at http://melrose226.wordpress.com/. Thanks for reading!

Music and Moods

I know I've written about music before. But, since it's one of the most important things in my life, I see no reason not to write about it again. Current, I won't lie, I am not in the greatest of moods as I write this. It's a long story which I won't go into, and really, nothing serious is going on, so its not a big deal. Basically just one of those moods where sadness, boredom, and disappointment mix into one and make you not feel all that great. But when I'm in a mood like this, the one thing I can always do to feel better is listen to music. Somehow, when I'm not feeling great, my iPhone usually picks then to play the best shuffle mix it possibly can, and I am incredibly grateful for that, even though I know it is most likely just a lucky coincidence.

For the second part of this blog, I feel the need to go into a mini rant. Concert tickets. It's incredibly hard to get them, and why is that? Well, unless you are a member of the artists fan club(which costs a considerable amount of money in most cases), you usually have to wait longer for tickets to come on sale. This means that a large amount of the best seats are already sold. Then you have the fact that once tickets go on sale for the public, most of the remaining good tickets are put into VIP Packages(additional large sums of money), and then sometimes people who are lucky enough to have a certain credit card or some account somewhere get preferred seats. I don't know exactly how many tickets go to each place or even how many tickets there are total to be sold, but logically speaking, it seems very hard for normal people who want normal tickets in a good location somewhere near the stage to be able to actually get them. There just aren't that many of these tickets LEFT. Now, I don't really begrudge the artists selling these VIP Packs or having Fan Club presales or any of it, I understand it makes a lot of money, and if you are lucky enough to be in their fan clubs, its a wonderful feeling to be able to buy tickets before anyone, trust me. Basically, the only reason I am writing this is because I am frustrated...frustrated that because I am a normal person it is nearly impossible for me to get concert tickets. If you've read this far, I just want to thank you...I truly appreciate you reading through my rambling.

Until next time,
Live and Love,
Melanie

Unexpected Plans

Plans are always fun. Whether they be to go to the movies, go to dinner, or just meet friends, having something to do is always more fun than being bored at home. To me, some of the best plans are the ones that are totally unexpected. Plans like those came up for me tonight, and I'm super excited about that!

If you're the kind of person who doesn't like spontaneity or surprises, you probably HATE unexpected plans. If this is the case, I have some advice for you: LOOSEN UP! I understand you liking order and schedules, but spontaneous plans are often the best ones, not to mention some people are literally incapable of planning things in advance, so if you want to do something with them, you almost HAVE to just "wing it" and be open for anything, anytime.

On the other side of the coin, if you are one of the people who can't plan in advance, I have advice for you too: SIT STILL AND FOCUS! It's great that you're spontaneous, but never knowing what you're doing from one day to the next can make the people around you absolutely insane, especially if you're around a person who likes order and planning. So take some time and do your best to make solid plans! The people around you who like order will appreciate it...and you might even appreciate it yourself! Knowing what to expect from a day can be really nice sometimes, so you don't have to be "going with the flow" ALL the time.

Bottom line to all of this: find a balance! Odds are, you either prefer plans or spontaneity naturally, but do your best to do things opposite every once in a while(If you like being spontaneous, make a plan/if you like having plans, be spontaneous). Your friends and the people you are making plans with will probably appreciate the change, especially if they like doing things that way, and its always good to mix it up!

Until next time,

Live and Love(and be opposite sometimes!),

No Blogging Yesterday...

Yep, I didn't blog yesterday. Sorry! I was not feeling very inspired, so I thought it would be better to wait a day then to write a completely pointless and awful blog. Now don't misunderstand, I'm not feeling all that inspired today either, but I can't put off blogging for two days in a row! Today, I am going to be focusing on as much English as I can possibly do. I also have a book club meeting this afternoon, where we will be discussing "The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks, which was the April book, but which never had the chance to be discussed thanks to some scheduling problems with meetings.

Also, thanks to me and my persistent bugging, my friend Gretchen recently started a blog! Go check it out at http://adkwriter15.wordpress.com/. Her goal is to write one poem every day for a year, and she is fabulous with all things writing related, so expect it to be a lot of fun to read!

On the subject of poems, I recently wrote some of my own for English. They aren't necessarily the greatest, but I'm pretty proud of some of them, so here is my favorite, entitled "I Took A Walk":

I took a walk today.
I walked into a dark forest, and lost my way. And I was lost, always lost, until the light that led me forward, always forward, and then out.
I walked into a deep blue ocean, and it got too deep. And I was drowning, always drowning, until I saw the light that led me upward, always upward, and then out.
I walked over a tall, snowcapped mountain, and it was cold. And I was dying, always dying, until I saw the light that kept me moving, always moving, and then out.
I walked into an open meadow, and it was beautiful. And I was happy, always happy, and then I saw the light and I went towards it, always towards it, and then out.
I took a walk today.

If you have any comments or even criticism, I'd love to hear it!

Until Next Time,

School

School. Either we have already completed it or we are still in it. Some of us hate it, others love it, and still others enjoy it when it's interesting, wish it took up a bit less of our time, but get good grades and don't quite hate it. I consider myself to be in the last group. School is not my favorite activity by any means, but I don't hate it, and even though at the moment I really and truly wish it was over for the year, I am working towards the end of the school year, and still getting good grades, so I suppose I should be quite happy with myself. Next year has the potential to be a great school year for me. If I take the courses I think I'll be taking, it could end up going incredibly smoothly, so fingers crossed!

I have a lot of friends who take a LOT of courses...I really don't know how they do it. I consider my workload to be heavy enough, without taking honors everything, ap courses, or just having a ton of extra courses and assignments. I have a ton of respect for the people who are enrolled in all these extra things, but I serious don't know how they do it without losing their minds. If you are a person taking all these extra or intensive courses, just know that I wish you the best of luck, and I certainly admire your dedication to education, although I must admit, I'm rather glad I'm not you!

Until next time,

Live and Love(good luck with school!),

Expectations

Expectations. We all have them. We may expect something to be a lot better than it turns out, or we may expect it to go a lot worse than it does. And we are usually either disappointed or pleasantly surprised. This has happened to me many times. Typically I look forward to something and build it up in my mind SO much that if something gets messed up, I get really let down. I hate when that happens, but sadly, if you let yours expectations get too high about something, it is very likely to occur. The best thing to do is expect to be at least a little let down, or let that possibility in, and then if things DO go perfectly, you will be pleasantly surprised. Also, don't count on something occuring so much that if plans change, you can't handle it. Things change all the time, so if that weekend vacation you were looking forward to so much gets rained out, try to reschedule it, or just let it go! Something good will come up eventually, and even if you're disappointed, you shouldn't let yourself get so sad that you don't know what to do. I have had my entire day ruined by changed plans...it's no fun, trust me. On the flip side of this, when you think something won't go that well and it ends up going beautifully, it is always a pleasant surprise. My days have been made much better or more interesting by something like this happening. If you have something coming up that you aren't looking forward to, look on the bright side...things might turn out much better than you plan!

Until next time,

Live and Love(and be careful with your expectations!),

Preakness Day!

Hello everyone! If you've been reading my blog, you know that I blogged about the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the Triple Crown. Today is Preakness day, and I am super excited! Calvin Borel, the winning jockey of the Kentucky Derby, predicted that his horse Super Saver would be a Triple Crown winner. Of course, that would be the first time the Triple Crown has been won since 1978 when Affirmed won it. Personally, I would LOVE to see it happen, but it's a very hard thing to achieve, and we'll just have to wait and see. My fingers are crossed!

If you didn't watch the Derby or don't typically watch the Triple Crown races, I recommend that you do today! It's super exciting and fun, and to watch just the race doesn't take long! It goes off at 6:05 PM Eastern Time, and will very likely be over and done by 6:07 at the latest, so it won't take much of your day! Tune in, and let's see if we can get another step closer to history being made...

Live and Love,
Melanie

UPDATE: Calvin Borel and Super Saver did not win the Preakness, which sadly puts an end to their Triple Crown quest. Congratulations to the connections of Lookin at Lucky on a race well run!

World Turning

Hello everyone! Let me start this blog off by telling you that I am not very good at writing poetry. This is why the fact that I wrote a halfway decent poem yesterday for English is a MAJOR achievement for me! Now don't get me wrong, it's not great by any means, but it is probably the best I have ever written.

What is life, if it is only days and time?
What are dreams, if they are only in our mind?
What is happiness, sorrow, and fear? Only feelings, they come, they disappear.
Everything changes, it turns, it changes.
Life eventually rearranges.
Our dreams, our feelings, turned to dust.
In the end, they end, they always must.

I call it "World Turning", hence the title of this blog. Like I said, it's not the best, but I think it's good, at least. To me, it has a really good message, something I was happy to be able to convey. Everything changes, no matter how we feel or what we think...eventually it will all go away. Sometimes it leaves something better behind, sometimes we have to deal with some pain to get past our loss. But no matter what we lose, it was always meant to happen. That's the way the world works. And the world is always turning.

Melanie

Riddles and Blogs

Alright, so for today's topic, I decided to talk about riddles and tough questions. Now personally, I love riddles. They are a lot of fun to try and figure out, and whenever I get them I'm pretty proud of myself! One of the most popular tough questions/riddles/mysteries is "If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" I have never been able to come up with a real response to this, and as far as I know, there has never really been an answer. In my opinion, if a noise is made(in a forest or anywhere else), then that noise DID occur, and sound was made. Take, for instance, a person talking. If you say something out loud, and no one else is around to hear you, your voice still made a sound. Of course, one could argue that this is because you are always around to hear yourself, but I do believe that noises are made whether people can hear them or not. There may never be a way to truly answer this question with actual scientific fact, but it's certainly and interesting question to think about!

Now on to the second portion of my blog today...blogs. A friend of mine recently started a blog, and I have to say, its excellent. Her writing is fabulous, and her thoughts and ideas are always interesting to read. I have to admit, in many ways, it's better than my own blog! If you are looking for something really interesting to read, you should definitely check it out at: http://littlelevon.wordpress.com/.

Until next time,
Live and Love(and find some good riddles!),

Happy(late) Mother's Day!!!

Alright, so a Mother's Day blog would have been a good idea, but since I was spending time with my Mom, Grandma, and family yesterday, I didn't get online and couldn't blog. So today will just have to work for a late Mother's Day blog.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there and especially to the best mom in the world, MY mom(I know I'm a little prejudiced, but I'm also right). Moms, you are always there for your kids, you do everything for them, and on behalf of all the kids out there, I hope you have a great day. We may not always show you just how much we care or appreciate what you do, but honestly, we care. And we love you more than you know for everything.

Mother's don't always get the appreciation they deserve, and a lot of the time, Mother's Day is just an added day of work and stress for Mom, the person it's supposed to be a day of relaxation for. As a group, I think that kids and people everywhere should step up a bit more. We can all handle being extra good on Mother's Day. We can make plans, buy flowers, or a card, or candy, or a gift, and do SOMETHING to show Mom that her hard work isn't unappreciated and unnoticed. I won't lie, I'm as guilty as anyone at being a useless, unappreciative brat on Mother's Day. But every year I say that I'll make an effort to make the day perfect and every year...well I don't. But hopefully next year? Maybe next year we can all put our minds to it and give our moms the kind of day they really deserve.

Until Next Time,

Live and Love(and appreciate your mother!),

I Remembered Today!

Alright, so I managed to remember to blog today! Apparently that is a pretty big accomplishment. Today has been rather boring so far, I did some schoolwork and now I'm listening to music on YouTube. It's fun to listen to some things that aren't my typical style of music.

I seriously need something to write about here! I am really curious if I have any readers, besides people I know, maybe one day I'll find out. If I do, and any of you have ideas for a blog topic, feel free to suggest it to me in the comments!

I think this will end a very short and pointless blog...

Melanie

Sorry about all these missed days...

Okay, so apparently I haven't been able to stick to daily blogging lately. Sorry about that! I really haven't been that busy, but I go to blog and then something happens and I push it off until later...and then forget, or something else happens and I end up not blogging at all.

Today was an interesting day. It started off pretty simple and fun, we had a family friend come over to the farm, sat around and chatted and generally enjoyed the morning, and then I came inside to do some schoolwork while the parents ran some errands. I never actually got to the schoolwork, however, because just as I was about to start, I began to feel really awful, and ended up getting off the computer entirely for a while. I had a headache, felt kind of nauseous, tired, and just generally bad. Now lately I haven't really been doing anything stressful or tiring, so I had no real reason to need rest. I am happy to report that after an afternoon of relaxing, laughing with my parents, watching tv, and playing in the bathtub like a five year old, I feel way better, and hopefully tomorrow I can start making up on all that missed schoolwork! I guess sometimes all you really need to feel better is some time to rewind...even if you thought you were already on pause.

Until next time, which will hopefully be TOMORROW like it's supposed to be!

Live and Love(and take some time to rewind!),
Melanie

I missed a day!

So sorry I missed a day of blogging yesterday! I had a really bad headache and decided to go to bed early. For the most part my day yesterday wasn't that interesting. I spent most of it watching the Kentucky Derby preshow and of course the race itself. Congratulations to Super Saver and all of his connections on a wonderful race! Here's hoping Calvin Borel is right and we're looking at our next Triple Crown winner.

So far this morning has been pretty boring. I am helping my mother set up her Facebook, and trying to find something interesting to do! Hopefully I'll find something soon.

Until Next Time,
Live and Love,
Melanie
